Questions

Ask us anything.

Call or text (410) 670-7666, Mon–Fri 12–8 PM.

Is the first class really free?

Yes. Your first visit is a free evaluation class with no obligation to sign anything.

What happens at the free evaluation class?

We learn your (or your child's) goals, try a class, and match you to the right program. Afterwards we'll go over options in person.

Where is Empire Dojo?

3101 Emmorton Rd, Suite A10, Abingdon, MD 21009, serving Abingdon, Bel Air, Edgewood, Forest Hill, Fallston, Joppa, and all of Harford County.

What are your hours?

We're open Monday–Friday, 12–8 PM, and closed Saturday and Sunday. Someone is usually available by phone during those hours at (410) 670-7666.

Where can I see the class schedule?

We email the class schedule once you book your free evaluation class, so we can point you to the classes that fit your program and age.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the program that fits your goals. We go over options in person after your free evaluation class.

What ages do you teach?

Ages 3 and up: Preschool Martial Arts (3–5), Kids Martial Arts (6–10), Teen Japanese Jujutsu (11–15) and Traditional Japanese Jujutsu (16+), plus Corporate Self-Defense for teams.

My child is shy. Will they be overwhelmed?

Classes are usually 15 or fewer, and our instructors are used to first-day nerves. Most shy kids are smiling by the end of class.

My child has ADHD or special needs. Is that okay?

Many of our families tell us structured classes help with focus. Call us to talk about your child and we'll make sure it's a good fit.

Will martial arts make my child aggressive?

No. Students learn to avoid fights, use their words first and use control. Respect is modeled in every class.

I'm out of shape. Can I still start?

Absolutely. Most adults start exactly there. Training is progressive and you go at your own pace.

Is it safe? Will I get hurt?

Safety and control come first. Techniques are taught step by step with cooperative partners, and everyone learns to fall safely.

Do you teach MMA, BJJ, Krav Maga or Muay Thai?

No. We specialize in traditional Japanese jujutsu and kobudo, which covers striking, throws, grappling, ground control and weapons. See Why Jujutsu.

What should I wear to my first class?

Comfortable athletic clothes. No shoes on the mat. Bring water.

What if my child wants to quit?

Every student hits a wall. Pushing through it with support is where real discipline and confidence are built, and we partner with parents to get there.
